Extra material to murder investigation Dana thought to her self as she lay stretched out on her bed; her arousal was consuming her. With her one hand planted between her legs, her fingers deeply stroking, inside her slick folds while her other hand was caressing and tugging at her nipple, her heat radiated from her centre as she looked across the room at Monica. Monica arms were stretched above her head; she was restrained at the wrists. Her eyes were but hooded slits, her breast full and her nipples hard. Her thighs soaked at the sight of Dana pleasing herself rendered Monica speechless. She was after all a willing slave. Her desire to touch Dana, to make love to her was beyond anything she had ever experienced. Only to be equally matched by her need to have Dana devour her as well. The power and control that Dana felt was intoxicating. Seeing Monica reduced to ashes by nothing more than the expectation of her touch was a high that she could not forsake. As Dana slowly slid off of the bed and fastened her harness a whimper escaped from Monica. Dana approached her hungrily, tiptoeing to free her, preparing herself as Monica all but collapsed into her. She managed to place her on the bed still without any intimate contact. She looked deep into Monica?s eyes, searching for something to stop her, but there was only pure desire as she gently parted her legs. She placed the tip of her silicone dildo teasingly inside of Monica. She watched as Monica?s lips parted and her eyes begged for more, she ever so slowly deepened her stroke as a single tear escaped from Monica?s eye. Dana knew at the moment that she had never felt loved or able to love as she did right now. Agent Scully awoke drenched, aroused, and wondering when this re-occurring dream would end. It was always the same, and each time Scully?s heart ached. It had been sometime since she had seen or even helped out on a case with Agent Reyes and yet her thoughts continued to drift back to her. It wasn?t as if she was avoiding her, Monica and John hadn?t requested her help recently. She tried to keep herself busy to limit the amount of time her thoughts would float back to Monica. It seemed as if the harder she struggled to control them, the more they would surface through her dreams. It was as if something deep within her would not allow her to be completely free from Monica. No Agent Reyes was indeed inescapable. Even if she were to see Monica again, what would she do? She could never allow her feelings to be known. Monica was in a committed relationship and seemed quite happy. When didn?t she seem happy? She thought to herself. That was one of the things that she first noticed about Monica, she was always happy. Even her eyes smiled. Agent Smiley that was Scully?s secret pet name for her back then, and as she recalled that pleasant memory she felt a small smile creeping up the corners of her mouth. She, however, quickly scolded herself for indulging in this meaningless fantasy. Monica was taken and quite happy. The last thing she needed was for Scully to show up pledge her undying love for her as if she were nothing more than a lovesick teenager. No it was better this way, at least she could have Monica if it were only in her dreams- literally. Scully reminded herself that even if she stood a chance with Agent Smiley, she had never been in a relationship with a woman before and wasn?t quite sure she knew what to expect or what would be expected of her. Sure she had been attracted to women all along, but she never acted upon it. She maintained denial, and continued to seek relationships with men then ended in public disaster. There was Dr. Daniel Waterston, an affair with her professor that she was none too proud of and although she loved him, it wasn?t that love that shook her to her core; it could never truly satisfy her. Then there was Agent Mulder. Everyone including herself knew that wouldn?t last. Yet she found herself believing she could make it work. She admired him, relied on him and even respected him. She had tried to convince herself that even though he was self absorbed, that they had enough in common to build a meaningful relationship. After all outside of her family there was no one she could trust. Who else was left for her to spend the rest of her life with? It would have to be Mulder. She soon found out that being self absorbed has a way of spilling into every aspect of a relationship. She also was very aware that no man had ever made her loose her breath right in her solar plexus the way the very thought of Monica did. Monica, we?re back on that train again she thought. Well at least there was some benefit to not working on a case with her. How could she work so closely with her, looking into those beautiful smiling chocolate eyes, admiring that stunning body, inhaling her scent that seemed to fill every room Monica walked into, and not being able to touch her? She would have to bottle up and hide her feelings on a daily bases. She would be subject to hearing about how happy her life is with her girlfriend and all the little stories about their lives together. She would be expected to be supportive and excited and more than willing to share in Monica?s happiness. This was something even Scully?s heart may not be able to withstand. No it was safer this way, better for everyone, maintain distance, and keep her walls up. ***---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------*** Monica smiled as she awoke in her lover?s bed. She hadn?t yet moved in, although she was beginning to feel pressure to. Something was holding Monica back, but what was it? She was happy after all. Happier than she had been in quite a long time, happier than when she was with, what was that big mistake?s name? Brad Follmer. It was hard for her to believe that six months had gone by since the last time she worked with Agent Scully. It wasn?t that she was avoiding Agent Scully. The X files weren?t turning up dead bodies at the rate they had in the past. She and John Doggett have been investigating the unexplainable, but these unexplained mysteries just so happened to involve the living, and honestly nothing that really captured her interest. She wanted to call Dana, or stop by but she didn?t know what to say and so much time had passed that now it would be beyond awkward. Monica didn?t realize how easy it was to use the X files as a buffer to talk to Dana. She wondered at first if Dana would call her, but after the first two weeks had passed she realized she wouldn?t. She admitted to herself that she was disappointed; she thought that after all they had been through together that Dana would make an effort to maintain their friendship. Why wouldn?t Dana call? Did she really possess the ability to turn her emotions on and off? Sure, Monica had witnessed her do this on several occasions at work, but could she really do this with people close to her? Then again Monica was never sure if Dana thought they were as close as she did. Why couldn?t she get her extrasensory gifts to work when it came to Dana? Monica reached for her cigarettes on the headboard. She lit one and pulled slowly, exhaled even slower. Why was she lying beside her lover who was sleeping curled up next to her, frenzied with thoughts of Dana? Dana Scully, there was a time when Monica actually thought something beautiful might happen between them. There were times that she gazed in Dana?s eyes and swore she caught a fleeting glimpse of attraction for her. There were brief touches, nothing inappropriate, but electric none the less. Was Monica just seeing and feeling what she wanted? Oh those red lips that pouted ever so seductively, those intense blue eyes that burned through Monica, those lean strong arms, legs, and ever so skilled hands from all of those years of performing autopsies. That pale, porcelain skin that appeared to be as soft as angel wings. Monica opened her eyes to put out her cigarette to see Jenn?s eyes looking at her. ?Baby, what are you thinking about?? Jenn asked. ?You? Monica lied. She knew she shouldn?t lie, but she really didn?t want to admit even to herself that after all this time, Dana still held her captive. Monica slid closer to Jenn, her hands in Jenn?s hair, kissing her deeply, roughly, struggling to believe for a brief minute that she didn?t need Dana, that she had everything she needed right here beside her. Jenn never hid how she felt about Monica; she loved her, needed her, and wanted to spend the rest of her life with her. For Monica it should have been enough but it wasn?t and the reality of that made her want to cry. ***---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------*** ?So ya make that move yet?? John asked innocently at the office. ?No not yet.? Monica answered flatly not desiring to enter into this conversation, especially since she was only on her first cup of coffee. Breakfast was out of the question since her stomach was still queasy from lying to Jenn this morning. Monica prided herself on being open and honest; she tried unsuccessfully to convince herself that she was backed into a corner and that she lied to protect Jenn?s feeling. She knew better and she realized that it was only a matter of time before she was going to have to have that talk with her that she had been avoiding. ?Well why not? Gosh Mon, she is beautiful, and she loves you, whatcha waitin for?? ?Hell to freeze over, I guess.? Monica sighed. ?John, I? am ? not really up for this... At that moment the door to the office opened with a very familiar voice greeting them. ?Agent Doggett, Agent Reyes? ?Agent Scully, what brings ya by?? John excitedly asked. Monica?s knees were instantly weak; she involuntarily doubled over the desk. Her palms started to sweat, her heart was racing, and she couldn?t catch her breath. The little bit of coffee that was in her stomach was threatening to come back up. ?Agent Reyes, are you all right?? Dana asked with great concern ?Yes, I have just been battling a stomach virus?. But I am ok.? Monica managed to reply. Twice now in one morning she had lied, and both times involved Dana. ?Monica, you don?t look so good.? John stated. Scully quickly exited, and entered again with a small cup of water. She walked over to Reyes and extended her hand holding the cup. ?Here Monica, try to drink this? Dana spoke with reassurance. Monica, she called me Monica, oh, her voice is filled with concern?. remember Monica, she is a doctor and that is how doctors are, she would be treating John the same way if he was the one bent over the desk, trying not to vomit like a complete idiot. She is so beautiful; I cannot look into those big blue eyes that are staring so intently on me right now. I need to run out of the building and get some air? Yeah right Monica how graceful would that look, and besides you know she would just follow you out, then what? Monica reached out to take the cup with her hand shaking and a voice that betrayed her as she spoke. ?Thank?you?..Dana? Monica managed to reply trembling. Dana quickly pulled out the desk chair and wheeled it around to Monica. She reached around Monica?s waist and eased her into the chair. Monica felt her insides melt at the touch of Dana?s hands the feel of her body against hers. My gosh if this woman had this effect on her in a very natural setting what would she reduce Monica down to in bed? Monica desperately needed to gain some control over her body, she was loosing it quickly and it was because of all mornings to show up, Dana picked this one. ?Thank you? Monica stated as she began to gain some control over herself. She kept her eyes glued to the floor. Dana studied her for a moment. She had a perfectly good excuse, she was after all a medical doctor trained to examine people. She noticed that Monica didn?t seem to be exhibiting any signs of danger or even moderate sickness, this actually intrigued Dana all the more. What was actually causing Monica?s strong reaction? It seemed to happen just as she was walking into the office. This thought caused heat to rise in Dana?s centre. Hmm, could she have such an extreme effect on her? She looked into Monica?s eyes even though for some reason Monica was starring at the floor, they were so beautiful, her hair smelled of white tea and ginger and her breasts were so full, so inviting, her lips appeared to be silky smooth. Oh, how Dana wanted to reach out and touch her, really touch her, feel her lips pressed against hers. Her hands had felt so good around Monica?s waist even if briefly, it was enough to cause Dana to become wet. Yeah right, why would it have anything to do with me? Dana chided herself, snap out of it, and pull yourself together you have a job to do, even if she would look really good with leather around her wrist. ?Monica, you need to go?? John asked ?No I am starting to feel better, thanks for offering though? Monica replied. Monica continued to sip her water as Dana began to speak. ?I found this when I walked into my office this morning, and in typical X files fashion it had been slid under my door. ?Well, what is it, Agent Scully?? John asked ?It appears to be an X file, but I am uncertain as to why it was slid under my door and not yours.? Dana answered. ?I spoke to Skinner this morning and he requested that I personally bring it to you, and brief you myself.? Dana stated. ?Why would he ask you to when he could just as easily do that himself, without requiring you to cancel your classes and drive for an hour to meet with us?? Monica asked. ?The sensitive nature of this case and who this case involves for starters.? Dana answered. ?This case involves A.D. Skinner?s nephew. He was found dead in a small town in North Carolina .? She was using her best Agent Scully voice maintaining all her professional demeanor on the outside, on the inside she was struggling to be in the same room with Monica. ?His brain was removed post mortem; Skinner has already made all the traveling arrangements he wants this closed as quickly as possible, and obviously will not trust anyone else with this case, we will need to leave for the airport in one hour.? She realized as she spoke that now she would be stuck in the same small room with Monica for another hour. How in the world is she going to do that? She could think of things to do to Monica that would pass the time if John would disappear, but then again why continue to fantasize about a woman who was unavailable and uninterested in her. Love must change a person, she hardly even made eye contact with her, gone was the attention that Dana was used to receiving from her. It was as if it didn?t matter that they haven?t seen each other in six months, Monica wasn?t interested in playing catch up. She hardly acknowledged Dana?s presence. Dana?s heart was slowly beginning to shatter; the drive there had been torturous enough. Her anxiety was getting the best of her, she was excited and scared half to death to look in Monica?s eyes after all this time, and now she was wishing she could just walk out the door and never come back. Dana was startled out of her thoughts when the phone rang. ?Monica Reyes? Monica spoke as she answered the phone. ?What? Who?um?ok?I?ll be right down? Monica hung up the phone. She looked as if she had seen a ghost. Agent Doggett and Agent Scully looked on with anticipation. Monica walked to the door as she mumbled. ?I?ll be right back.? Monica thought to herself, just when it looked as if her day couldn?t get any worse, Jenn shows up at downstairs with breakfast for her. This of course only added to the guilt she was already feeling, lying to Jenn this morning, making love to her while imagining she was Dana. Things Monica would never believe herself capable of and yet she found herself doing. How could she face Jenn, she was hardly able to face Dana. My my how good she looked, those piercing blue eyes, that soft touch when she eased Monica into the chair. It was still electric. She hated for Dana to see her so weak. She wanted her to see her strong, she always sought after her approval. Now she comes walking back into her life and it?s all she can do not to fall apart. The elevator opens and she sees Jenn talking and laughing with the security guard holding a paper bag and a tall cup of expensive coffee. Jenn was so thoughtful, and in love with Monica, anyone could see it a mile a way. A big warm smile spread across Jenn?s face as she walked up to her. ?I thought you might be hungry? Jenn spoke softly. ?Thank you, you didn?t have to you know? Monica offered. ?Are you ok, you don?t look so good?? Jenn asked. ?Yes I have just been assigned difficult case and will be leaving in one hour? Monica?s eyes hit the floor again. ?Oh, call me as soon as you get a chance then? Jenn tried to study her lover?s face but her hair was hanging down like a covering as she seemed to be fixated on the floor. ?I will, thanks again for being so thoughtful? Having said that Monica turned to walk back to the office. This day was going to hell in a matter of moments. She wanted to go home crawl under her bed and forget today ever happened. Now she had to go back to the office where Dana was waiting, and then work a case with her, a case that involved the death of AD Skinner?s nephew no less. She could hear Dana and John laughing as she approached the door. ?Rocky Bronzino didn?t stand a chance? Dana?s face was full of laughter as she looked up to see Monica returning. John?s face was blood red and his laugh was hearty. ?Agent Dana Bronzino? he teased. Dana?s eyes watered as she laughed, she had missed John also, and it felt good to laugh again. ?Agent John Bronzino was more likely? Scully teased back, this even made Monica giggle. She had forgotten how alluring Dana was when she actually laughed. Most people never had the opportunity to see her humor, but she had on rare occasions, it was one of the many qualities that Monica was drawn to. ?Whatcha got in the bag?? John asked, as soon as he caught his breath. Monica reached in and pulled out a bowl of fresh exotic fruit. It was a par for course that she would be void of an appetite. She placed it down on the desk. ?Expensive coffee and fresh exotic fruit must be nice? Scully said before she could stop herself. ?Yeah Monica nabbed herself a real catch there Agent Scully? John spoke innocently, but he might as well have ripped Dana?s heart out. Monica eyes darted out at John. ?I am happy for you Agent Reyes? Dana?s voice didn?t sound happy at all. In fact if Monica didn?t know better she seemed sad. Why on earth would Dana be sad? ?Well, we are taking it slow, seeing where it is going? Monica wasn?t sure why she said this at all, except that she couldn?t bear the sound in Dana?s voice. Even if she wasn?t sure what that sadness meant. ?Oh yeah right Monica, you're moving in , if dat were me, moving in with someone like dat, heck, I?d be screaming it from the rooftops? John laughed. Dana felt faint, I have lost her, any chance that I might have had, I?ve lost. She felt a lump rise to her throat, and she choked back any tears that would threaten to make themselves known. ?I haven?t made any plans to move anywhere? Monica snapped. She did not like the direction of this conversation, and yet she was still puzzled by Dana?s non verbal response, something was definitely askew. Now her extrasensory gift was picking up something, something deep and sorrowful. It was radiating off Dana almost like an impenetrable haze. Almost as soon as she recognized it, it lifted with that last statement Monica made. Could it be that Dana Scully was happy to hear she wasn?t planning on moving in with her girlfriend? Why would that make her happy? ?Agents, I will personally be driving you to the airport? AD Skinner announced. ?You have less than 48 hours to turn this case around before it leaks out. I appreciate your help concerning this matter.? Skinner spoke as he stood in the doorway. Each of them retrieved their overnight bags and met Skinner by his vehicle. John opened the front door leaving Dana and Monica to sit in the back together. There was enough space behind them to park a tractor trailer, or so it seemed. The ride to the airport was a silent one, as was the flight down. They checked into the Davey Crockett Motor Court, only to find that Skinner had booked adjoining rooms for Agent Scully and Agent Reyes. He was most likely remembering how Agent Scully was prone to nightmares especially when working a difficult case. He probably remembered how she suffered from them the night leading up to finding Agent Mulder?s dead body. He was sensitive and protective when it came to Agent Scully. She was after all one of his favorite agents. They had been through a great deal together. Monica let the hot water wash over her, as she tried to imagine what the next two days would hold for her. She yearned to focus on the case, however, Dana flooded her thoughts, her desires, and it was overwhelming. The heat from the shower was loosening her stiff muscles. She did not hear Dana when she called out to her as she entered her room. Dana was uncomfortable entering Monica?s room, visions from her re-occurring dream crept to the surface. She knew, as she had almost from the beginning, that she was in love with Monica. It was more than sex, she wanted more than a fling, and she wanted love, Monica?s love. It grieved her to think of Monica with someone else, but what did she expect? She never made her feelings known. Someone as breathtaking as Monica wouldn?t stay single. No, women like Monica practically tripped over women and men just dying to scoop her up. Why would she wait for Dana to finally be able to admit to herself that she loved Monica? Monica had finished showering and dried off. She was unaware that Dana was sitting at the table in her room waiting for her to come out. Monica opened the bathroom door completely naked and was in the process of walking to her clothes when she froze. Dana was shocked to look and see Monica completely naked, and yet she could not look away. Dana?s lip lowered in reaction to what she was seeing. Her eyes traveled over Monica?s beautiful body, and she realized that Monica?s body was even more stunning than what her mind had imagined in her re-occurring dream. ?I?um...didn?t ?.? ?I...said?um?when...I...uh?.? Monica then made a quick dash to get her clothes and get dressed. Her heart was pounding and her mind racing. She was sure there was a visible flush spreading through her body. Dana, Dana, her eyes were aroused as she looked my body over, how could this be? Surely being a doctor she has seen hundreds of women naked before. No there was no mistaking the fact that Dana was pleasantly aroused at the sight of my naked body. Monica fought off the big goofy grin that wished to present itself. Dana knew she had openly admired Monica?s body. She did it before she could stop herself. She after all had not planned on Monica walking out of the bathroom naked. There was nothing she could do or say about it now. Monica made her way back to the table, trying to be as professional as she could be. ?So you needed to see me?? ?Yes, I wanted to leave the file with you, I am heading over to do the autopsy.? Monica was still sexy dressed in black jeans and a simple t shirt, barefoot with damp hair. Monica began looking over the pictures of the body. ?Do you know how the brain was removed?? ?I won?t know for sure until I begin the autopsy? Dana moved over to Monica?s side and began to trace the picture with a small manicured finger nail ?If you look closely, the surrounding area where these cuts are, definitely suggests that they were hacked out, in a frenzied way. Dana fought the urge to touch her, to lean up and kiss her. ?Agent Scully, are you familiar with the cult killings in the 20s, where they removed the weaker cult members brains, and fed on them?? ?Yes, it was a very high profiled case for the time; they ate the brains of the weaker members to become more spiritual.? ?They believed that the sacrifice of the body and the ingestion of the brain brought them to a higher spiritual realm. That they could transcend time and space.? ?Are you suggesting that we have a copycat on our hands, Agent Reyes?? ?Or maybe that someone has succeeded and is moving through time, finishing what they started? ?You believe that Skinner?s nephew was involved in a brain eating cult?? ?Well I am not exactly sure how Skinner?s nephew is involved.? Dana watched Monica, she had learned over time not to quickly dismiss her far out assumptions. She had proven her theories on several occasions. It was Monica?s belief in numerology that led them to catch a killer in a garage with a checker playing stranger. Monica?s gift played a significant part in the case involving Josef Kolbold. They may not have caught him, since he seemed to be five steps ahead of them at all times, however, there were certain things about that case that stood out in Dana?s mind. The voices that were unexplainable, Monica?s admission of it being the first time she had ever sensed the presence of evil. Monica was an expert in ritualistic crimes, and would openly declare that the government had never been able to find evidence to support the idea of a true satanic crime. She may not believe her theory, but that doesn?t mean she would completely close herself down to any possibility. ?I am heading out to perform the autopsy.? A knock on the door interrupted. Monica answered the door to find John standing there. ?I am going to the crime scene, ya guys coming?? ?Agent Scully is leaving to do the autopsy, but sure John I will go with you, let me grab my jacket.? ?Be careful Scully whispered to Monica in passing as she exited the room.? What was that about? Monica wondered. It wasn?t as if she hadn?t been to thousands of different crime scenes. She had investigated cases that were extremely dangerous, and now Dana cautions her, even though she is merely going to look over the crime scene. It was as if she was beginning to see a different Dana, one that she liked but was at a loss to understand. She couldn?t deny that it was beginning to have a pleasant effect on her. Her body was warm and tingly at the thought. They pulled up to the cabin where AD Skinners nephew was murdered, made all the small talk with the police force. The PD was surprisingly cooperative and filled them in with the specifics. They made their way into the cabin, and although the local enforcements had already combed through the place Agents Doggett and Reyes wanted to be certain that nothing was overlooked. This was the Assistant Director?s nephew and all though at times it would appear blurry as to which side AD Skinner was actually on, they still considered him an ally. He had proven himself; even if they still had questions to why he would at times withhold information. They had come to the conclusion on several different cases, that this was his misguided way of protecting them. It was Agent Scully who had helped them to understand this about the Assistant Director. They would take every precaution taking their time, going over every inch of the scene. Monica had strolled out back to get a look at the surrounding area. She was alone and preferred it that way. It helped her to focus her gift, to get a feel of what was going on around her, and what had taken place. She was taken aback with an intense sense of immediate danger. She turned only to be struck in the face with a blunt object. John found her outside unconscious. She came to in the emergency room with both John and Dana standing at her side, both sets of eyes filled with concern. ?How ya feeling kiddo? John asked. Memories of the incident began swirling inside of Monica?s mind. ?I am fine? Monica had an aversion to hospitals and wanted desperately to jump up and leave. ?What the hell happened out there?? John needed to know; no one saw or heard anything. Dana?s eyes penetrated her, full of concern and question, but there was something else showing up in them, something deeper. Monica explained how when she turned around she was struck by something, someone was standing there. It was as if he appeared out of nowhere. ?And disappeared into nowhere? Dana replied softly. ?John Doggett? Agent Doggett spoke into his cell phone as he quickly made his way out to the hallway. Dana moved closer to Monica to get a better look at her injury. Her touch was soft as she inspected the wound; her lips were close to Monica?s lips. ?You should heal up nicely; no significant damage has been done.? Dana whispered. Monica?s eyes closed as Dana?s warm breath brushed her lips. Monica became damp at the thought of what Dana was really trying to tell her. She knew she had just been taken by surprise, and that her injury was nothing for her to be concerned about. Yet, here she was leaning in for what in any other circumstance would be kiss. Monica was frightened at the thought. She had loved Dana from a far for so long, she basically given up hope that anything would ever happen between them. ?You really gave us a scare there for a moment? Dana breathed still so close to Monica?s lips, looking up at Monica. Monica glanced down at Dana?s beautiful blue eyes looking into hers. She wished she possessed the will to slightly turn her head allowing her lips to brush Dana?s ?That was Skinner I brought him up to date on the investigation? Agent Doggett returned to the room. He noticed how close Agent Scully was to Agent Reyes, and for a split second wondered what he had walked back into. Then he logically deducted that she was only examining Agent Reyes. Dana quickly returned to a standing position, moving back away from Monica?s bed. ?She will heal, with no permanent damage.? Scully stated flatly. Damn it John, your timing couldn?t be worse Monica thought. ?Agent Scully, did you find anything in the autopsy?? Monica asked Agent Scully, I like when she calls me Dana. ?The area surrounding where the brain was removed indicates that it was done in a panic, almost a feverish rush.? I checked into your theory Agent Reyes, and the removal of the brain was in fact executed in the exact same manner, with what appears to be the exact same weapon as the cult killing in the 1920s.? ?What cult killings?? Agent Doggett did not like what he was hearing. As much as he admired both agents, he hated it when they tried to tie in aliens, UFOs, witches, poltergeist, vampires, and any other so called phenomenon. ?In the 20s there was a very high profile case involving a cult leader named Richard Lucas. Typical to cult leaders he was charismatic, an apocalyptic visionary, intoxicated with lust, and power both physical and sexual to control his followers. He believed that by eating the brains of the weak members, after he had used them to the point where controlling them no longer held his interest, would give him the power to transcend time and space.? ?Oh no, you two aint gonna make this into an X file, it isn?t even close, you trying to tell me that the Assistant Director of the FBI?s nephew was in a cult? Is that what you?re saying here?? ?You believe this Agent Scully?? John?s voice was becoming elevated. He respected them, he just hated all this hocus pocus crap. Heck, he could even believe that it was a cult killing on the wrong guy, but not that someone had the ability to transcend time and space, that it was one of the same people from a cult in that dated back to the 1920s. ?Agent Doggett, I may not be naturally inclined to agree with Agent Reyes, however, there is hard forensic evidence that supports her theory. How else do you explain someone?s brain being removed in the exact same manner, with the exact the same weapon?? Monica?s heart fluttered as she felt a flush rising in her chest. She was delighted to see Dana agreeing with her theory. She knew Dana was still somewhat skeptical, even though she was more open to extreme possibilities. ?I don?t know yet, but I will? Agent Doggett declared as he left the hospital. ?Monica, are you ready to leave?? Dana asked with a full grin spread a crossed her face. Monica mirrored Dana?s wide grin with her own. ?I thought you?d never ask? Monica said as she lifted off the bed, took her clothes and headed toward the bathroom to change. Dana?s mind immediately went back to seeing Monica?s naked body earlier today. How beautifully stunning she is. Her slender well toned athletic body complete with full breasts. Her nicely trimmed dark brown curls that gave the impression that they were soft beyond words. Dana?s face was beyond warm, it was hot. She had to pull herself together. Monica would be back out in a second, and then she would have to ride in the same car with her back to the motel. She needed to get herself together, and then her heart sank, as she remembered Monica was taken. What was it Monica said earlier, she was taking it slow, seeing where it goes, hmm that didn?t seem to imply taken. Involved yes, but not committed. There is hope after all Dana thought. Monica returned looking as sexy as ever. Dana licked her lips involuntarily at the sight. This action did not go unnoticed by Monica. ?Ready?? Monica grinned almost wickedly. ?That I am? Dana returned a wicked grin of her own as they walked out of the room. ?Monica Reyes,? Monica spoke into her cell on the drive back. Monica?s playful expression drained from her face. Dana sensing it glanced quickly at Monica to see if she was ok. ?I am sorry I didn?t have a chance to call you yet. I am fine. I have just been busy.? Dana realized it was Monica?s lover, she forgot what her name was, which was somewhat understandable because she did not particularly care to remember. ?Yes, thanks again for the breakfast, it was very thoughtful.? She didn?t have the heart to tell her that she was unable to eat it. That Dana and John practically fought over it. Monica really did not want to be having this conversation right now, things were seeming to progress nicely between her and Dana and as guilty as she felt, she knew she could never love anyone the way she loved Dana. She glanced at Dana noticing that she seemed to be attempting to hold back the fact that she was unhappy about the call as well. ?We are heading back to the motel now, it is late and there really isn?t anything we can do until morning.? Monica hoped that this would end the call but she would not be so lucky. ?Um?no?I ...don?t think I will be able to...uh?do ?that?? Monica stammered Oh good Lord, do what? Dana thought to her self at the implication of what Monica?s lover was asking. ?The walls are paper thin? Monica whispered. I do not want to be hearing this Dana thought to herself. ?Yes I will call you in the morning?me too? Monica hung up the phone. Me too, that was they way people said I love you too, when they don?t want anyone to hear them. Is Monica in love? Well, why wouldn?t she be? Why would she care if I heard her? She would have to know, I would know what she is saying even without her saying it. Yet she still didn?t say it. That must mean something. Dana analyzed. ?I am sure I could find something to plug my ears with if you wanted to indulge your girlfriend, Monica? Dana said with the most sexual undertone that Monica has ever heard in her voice. It was accompanied by a devilish grin. Dana had decided that she was going to see if there was any chance that something could happen between her and Monica. What did she stand to loose? She had already potentially lost Monica because of her refusal to admit how she felt about her. How alive she made her feel. It was as if she had awakened something that had been buried for so long, Dana forgot it even existed. She understood the risk of not having her affection returned; she was a beautiful woman who was apparently in love. It would have an effect on their working relationship that is if they ever had a working relationship again. This was one of the fears that held her back all this time. Now, it was a risk she was willing to take, that she needed to take. ?Ugh Dana? Monica snorted and then began to giggle. ?Just trying to be helpful? Dana laughed. ?I am sure I can come up with other ways for you to be helpful? Monica teasingly said before she could stop herself. ?And what might those ways be?? Dana asked as she had to admit she was surprise by Monica?s revelation. ?Guess you?ll have to wait and see? ?Guess so? They pulled up to the motel room, and exited the vehicle. John walked out of his room toward them. Damn it John your timing is going to be the death of me, Monica thought. ?I was making some calls, checking out your theory Agent Reyes when I found out something interesting.? Agent Doggett stated. They all entered into Monica?s room. ?It seems Eric was involved with a girl who has been tied to a cult named The Lucas Revolution. ?The Lucas Revolution?? Agent Scully questioned ?It is a new branch of the Revolution which Richard Lucas founded in the 1920s. There is a connection Agent Reyes but just not the connection that you were hoping for. ?Ok, but that still does not explain how they happen to be in possession of the same weapon and could execute the killing with the same precision as the 1920 killings.? Agent Scully stated. ?Or, how I could be struck by someone who appeared out of nowhere only to disappear without a trace.? Agent Reyes added. ?It is a start? Agent Doggett stated. He was hoping that they would be more accepting of his findings and leave all that other stuff behind. It was only meat and potatoes work that was going to solve the case, not chasing the invisible man. ?Well it is late agents I am gonna turn in.? John said as he got up from the table and headed for the door. ?Good night John? they said in unison. ?I guess I should get going and let you get some rest.? Dana offered, secretly wishing Monica would stop her. ?Don?t be ridiculous, I am fine besides I could use some company? Dana smiled and sat back down. At that moment Monica?s cell phone rang ?what in the hell?Monica Reyes? she answered. ?I already told you, I am not going to do that Jenn? Jenn that?s her name, hmm she seemed to need Monica. Dana?s eyes went straight to the floor. She inhaled deeply and mouthed good night to Monica and went through the adjoining door. Maybe it just isn?t meant to be Dana began to question as she shed her clothes opting for her comfy pajamas. She curled up in her bed wondering what Monica and Jenn were doing right now. It hurt too much to think about Monica on the bed, pleasing herself and bringing Jenn with her. She would much rather concentrate on Monica alone pleasing herself anyone being on the phone. Dana was exhausted she was fading quickly. Monica had ended her conversation with Jenn in an argument. She hated arguing, and especially over the phone. Why couldn?t Jenn just leave it alone? Why couldn?t she understand that she was on a case, a very difficult case and just wasn?t up to it. Well that wasn?t necessarily true, she was up to it, but not with Jenn. Why did Jenn have to call and interrupt her time with Dana. That is what really irritated Monica and she knew she wasn?t being fair to Jenn. She decided to have that heart to heart with her when she returned. She had known for quite sometime that all though she loved Jenn, she could never love her the way she deserved to be loved. She would have to let her go, even if nothing happened between her and Dana. She still needed to do what was right with Jenn, and that meant letting her go. Monica closed her eyes tightly and exhaled, shifting to get comfortable when all of a sudden she heard Dana scream. She bolted up out of bed and quickly raced to find the adjoining door opened a crack. She ran into Dana?s room to find her sitting up straight in the bed. ?Dana, are you ok? What is it, what happened?? Dana jumped at the sound of Monica?s voice turned to her with tears streaming down her face. ?I am sorry, Dana whispered, ?I had a nightmare? Monica moved to the bed, and sat down beside her and wrapped her arm around Dana. ?It?s ok, your safe now? Dana?s head fell on Monica?s breast as she began to sob. ?Oh Gosh, Dana, its ok, your ok.? Dana slowly lifted her head and looked into those big chocolate eyes that were filled with more compassion than seemed to be humanly possible. ?It wasn?t me, it was you,? Dana said shakily between sobs. ?Hey?hey?you haven?t lost me, it was just a bad dream.? Monica began to stroke Dana?s hair back. ?I am afraid I have? Dana sighed. ?No, I am here? Monica bent down a placed a small chaste kiss on the top of Dana?s head. ?Mmm? Dana let out a slight moan at Monica?s little kiss. Monica felt her heart swell; she positioned herself so that she could wrap her up in her arms. Dana welcomed the embrace. Monica continued to lightly stroke her hair bringing her the comfort her soul sought after. This was after all one of Monica?s qualities that she was drawn to, her ability to love and give of herself so freely. Dana was used to hiding her emotions, putting her walls up, keeping all of her emotions bottled up, protecting herself at all cost. She felt herself drifting off in Monica?s embrace, as much as she wished to stay awake she no longer could fight it. Monica felt her sleep. At first she just watched as she slept, wondering what was actually happening with Dana, why now all of a sudden did she seem to be attracted to her, flirting with her? Every time it seemed to be going in the right direction something interrupted them, between John and Jenn, Monica wondered if they were ever going to have the chance to see where all of this was going. She realized that Dana would wake up stiff if she continued to sleep in her arms. As much as she wanted to bask in the warmth of her, she also wanted her to get a good night?s rest. She slowly shifted easing her down to the bed. She covered her up and was turning to walk away when Dana grabbed her wrist. ?Stay with me? she pleaded still half asleep. She rolled back giving Monica the invitation to lie down beside her. Monica hesitantly took the invitation and lay down next to her. Dana sleepily scooted close to her, wrapping her arm around her torso and falling back to sleep. A part of Monica wanted her to wake up, to resolve this, and a part of her was exhausted herself. Despite her best effort Monica felt sleep overtaking her. Monica was the first to awake, with Dana?s head on her breast, her arm over her waist and her leg over Monica?s leg. Monica decided to try and remain absolutely still. The feeling of Dana Scully spread over her so intimately was enough to take her breath away. Her body was reacting to the situation she found herself in. She was warm and her centre was sizzling. My, she hoped she would not awake embarrassed to the way she was sleeping. Monica closed her eyes taken in every precious second this morning held for her. Dana?s eyes opened ?Oh my gosh? she let out as she rolled off of Monica. ?I am sorry Monica ?she stammered. ?You have nothing to apologize for Dana? Monica said sheepishly. ?I am sorry that you ended up here instead of sleeping comfortably in your own bed.? Dana stated shyly. ?Dana I am here because I want to be here. You don?t need to apologize? Monica breathed. Dana raised an eyebrow lifting her head to gaze into Monica?s deep chocolate eyes that were filled with love and desire. Monica returned the gaze, looking deep into her beautiful eyes, searching for some sign to stop but she found none. She leaned in slowly, cupping her face with her hands. Her lips brushed against Dana?s, her tongue gradually traced her tender lower lip, causing her lips to part. This allowed Monica?s tongue the entrance she sought. They began exploring each other?s mouths, circling, probing, and their tongues tangled. Dana deepened the kiss as Monica moaned into her mouth it was electric and her mouth began trailing all along Monica?s neck kissing, licking, and sucking its way down. Suddenly there is a knock at the door, they jump apart. Dana tried to collect herself and grab her robe. ?Agent Scully, it?s Agent Doggett? Monica quietly snuck back to her room closing the adjoining door, once again cursing John?s timing under her breath. Dana opened the door allowing John in. ?What is it Agent Doggett?? ?I was thinking we could go and question Diana Kensington, Eric?s girlfriend? ?Give me a few to shower and we can go, have you spoken to Agent Reyes?? She already knew he hadn?t, but she was playing it off. She did however need a shower; she was soaked after that little session and lying on top of Monica. She wondered if Monica was already in the shower. Hmm she would like to be in the shower with her, and that beautiful body of hers, all lathered up and sexy soft to the touch. ?Agent Scully are you all right?? ?Um yeah, just waking up? ?Your face is red and you went somewhere on me just now? Oh gosh, was it that obvious? ?No, I am fine, just tired, thank you for the concern though? ?If ya say so, I?m going to get Monica and we?ll meet you out front in 15? ?All right? she said as she turned and closed the door. She would like to have 30 minutes to let the warm water wash over her, and help her gather her thoughts together. She was going to have to put those professional walls up and hoped Monica would understand. She didn?t want to appear as though last night and this morning had meant nothing, but at the same time she couldn?t risk putting Monica in any danger either. She needed to maintain a professional outlook, an objective eye, and a rational brain. If she failed to do this she could very well cause Monica to be in harm?s way. Monica was an extremely bright woman and a damn good agent but sometimes she could unknowingly walk into trouble. Mulder was the same way. She wondered if it came with the completely open mind territory. She finished showering and quickly got dressed. Her hair was still damp on the ends when Agent Reyes tapped the adjoining door, before walking through. Monica walked up behind Dana and slid her arms around her waist. She softly kissed the base of her neck. Mmmm Dana moaned. ?Monica, please? ?I know I just wanted to sneak back in before we have to go back out there with John. I am sorry I just couldn?t resist.? ?No, it?s not that? Dana turned, reaching down and interlocking fingers with Monica staring intently into her eyes. ?I need you to understand that when we do go back out there that I will need to somewhat distance myself from you.? ?Well of course I wouldn?t expect you to hold my hand in front of John? ?It will be more than that, but not because what happened didn?t mean anything to me, it?s just that I will need to remain focused.? ?You mean you feel as though you have to protect me? ?Well, yes? Monica released her hand from Dana?s. She rested her palms on Dana?s hips. She stared deep inside of her beautiful blue eyes. ?Dana, I am touched deeply that you would want to protect me, however, I am capable of protecting myself.? ?I know that, I just wouldn?t want anything to cloud your instincts, to distract you from making the right decisions? Knock knock, Scully opened the door to Agent Doggett who carried coffee in his hands. ?Agent Doggett, I think you read my mind? Agent Scully smiled as she took a cup of coffee. ?And one for you Agent Reyes? Doggett Handing the other cup to Reyes and they left the room. They had been driving for quite a long time when they finally reached the home of Diana Kensington. Agent Doggett found out that she was an administrative assistant in a successful investment banking firm. She lived in a nice quiet part of town, with a black 2007 Lexus SUV parked in the driveway. She answered the door and they quickly understood what Eric saw in her. She was shorter than Scully, long black hair, blue eyes, and a voluptuous figure. She was still stunning despite the dark circles under her eyes and the red that consumed the whites of her eyes. She was visibly upset and shaken. Grieving was the appropriate word. They flashed their badges, stated their names, and were granted permission to come inside. The inside of the house was of course nice as well. Agents Scully and Reyes sat on the loveseat directly across from the sofa Diana was sitting on. Agent Doggett made his way to the chair in the corner. ?We are very sorry for your loss Diana? Agent Reyes voiced Diana tried to smile, but just nodded. ?We need to ask you a few questions? Reyes continued Diana nodded in agreement. ?I already told the police everything? ?We understand, but if you would just answer a few more questions, we will be on our way.? ?If I can? ?It is our understanding that you and the victim were engaged.? Reyes spoke with caution, not wishing to cause the woman to become withdrawn. Monica has a way with people; Dana thought as she watched how she delicately handled the interrogation. ?Yes we were, we going to be married in August.? ?I didn?t realize it was that soon? Scully chimed in. ?We have been engaged for six months, were together a year prior to that, so in a sense it wasn?t that soon? ?I see? Scully stated. ?Diana, do you have any idea why Eric would be renting a cabin in the mountains?? Reyes gently probed. ?He said he wanted to get away for awhile, things at work were bothering him? ?He said he just needed some time to gather his thoughts.? ?Is there any reason why he wouldn?t take you with him? Agent Doggett asked. ?I don?t understand what you are asking, what are you trying to imply? ?I aint implying nuttin, I just find it odd that your fiance would go away for a weekend to relax and not bring you wit him? ?As I said, he wanted to get away; he said he needed some time.? Having said that she rose up and walked to the door, signaling that it was time for them to go. ?She is hiding something? Doggett acknowledged as the drove to the diner to pick up a quick bite to eat. ?Yes, but I am uncertain as to what that is? Scully replied. Monica giggled almost to herself. ?Something funny Agent Reyes?? Dana inquired with a raised eyebrow. ?I was just thinking that Diana was actually shorter than you, I didn?t think I would ever meet anyone shorter than you? ?Oh very funny? Dana said flatly Monica couldn?t resist the urge, ?it was as if you were standing by a sign much in the fashion of a carnival ride, stating you must be this tall to be investigated by the FBI? Monica teased. John let out a hearty chuckle. Dana shot Monica that don?t you dare push this, glare. ?Oh come on Agent Scully?..? Monica teased ?Sure. Fine. Whatever.? Scully said dryly. Monica looked back at Dana flashing her big toothy grin. She couldn?t stay mad at Agent Smiley. Dana knew that Monica was only playing with her, but why did she have to pick her height of all things to tease her about. It was the one thing that Dana hated. Being short remained a disadvantage for her in so many areas of her life. It was one of the things that kept Dana appearing hostile to most people. It seemed if she was pleasant and caring, people either tried to take advantage of her, or wouldn?t take her seriously because of her height. They entered the diner and Dana went straight to the bathroom. Monica walked to the table with John explained that she had to pee and would be right back. Monica entered the bathroom quickly looked around and noticed that Dana was the only one in there and locked the door. Dana exited the stall and walked over to the sink, washed her hands, Monica walked up behind her wrapping her long toned arms around Dana?s waist. ?Mmm? Dana relaxed in Monica?s embrace, then tightened back up. ?Monica somebody is going to walk in? ?No it is ok, I locked the door.? Monica tightened her arms around Dana. ?Hmm it seems someone is a little randy this morning? Dana teased, she quickly lost her resolve at keeping her professional walls up. Monica smiled and kissed the top of her head. Dana suddenly turned and thrust Monica against the wall by the sink. She stretched up to reach Monica?s mouth, Monica bent down, and her tongue began to quickly invade Monica?s mouth kissing her deeply, passionately, and hard. Her hands hungrily wandered all over her body, seeking, searching, and needing to possess every inch of her. Dana?s hands slid under Monica?s shirt quickly finding and cupping her breast. She felt Monica?s harden nipples through her bra, this discovery caused her centre to spasm. Dana began squeezing and pulling and tugging at Monica?s taut nipples. Monica let out a throaty moan ?My Gosh, Dana what are you doing?? She didn?t reply, instead she increased the intensity of her onslaught. Monica?s mind was swirling, she didn?t intend on a quick fuck inside of the bathroom. She just wanted a kiss, some intimate affection before going back to the table with John. Dana slid her hand down to Monica?s waistline, unbuttoning her slacks. Monica reached down and grabbed Dana?s wrist, stopping her. ?Dana, look at me, what are you doing?? ?Do you want me to stop?? Dana panted ?Well yes and no? Monica said with a heavy breath. ?Dana, I want to be with you, but I want more than just sex.? Monica became fearful, she wasn?t sure what Dana wanted, but she knew she needed to be honest. She wanted more from her than a quickie in the bathroom. She needed more. She was in love with her and she knew now was not the time to make those feelings known, it would only scare her away. At the same time she was on fire, her centre sizzling, and her body had no problem responding to the assault on it. Dana looked at Monica quizzically. ?What about Jenn?? Dana asked afraid of the answer that was coming. ?Oh? Monica realized that she must have thought a quickie was all she was interested in. ?Dana, I had already planned on ending it with her when I return. I love her and I will always want what is best for her, but ?..? Monica feared revealing too much Dana was pleasantly surprised at the latest information she was receiving. Her heart skipped a beat, and her eyes became childlike. ?I am sorry?I just thought that?..? ?No it is ok I understand? Monica pulled Dana to her, placing a soft kiss on her forehead. ?So we both want the same thing then??.? Dana hesitantly replied, not wishing to disclose too much. ?Yes, I believe we do? Monica smiled the warmest smile. ?We really should get back to John though, he is going to think we fell in? Monica teased. Dana let a chuckle, she had to admit, and she loved Monica?s sense of humor. ?Well I was getting ready to send in a search party? John joked as they returned to the table. ?What the hell do you women do in there anyway?? Dana stifled a giggle at the answer to that question Good thing the place is practically empty or there might have been a line outside the bathroom door, Monica thought to herself as she sat down. Dana took the seat next to her. ?I took the liberty of ordering for all us, since you two took so long? ?I ordered a grilled chicken salad with balsamic dressing on the side for you, Agent Scully. I ordered the grilled pastrami, with corned beef and fries for you Monica, and a reuben for me. How?d I do?? ?Amazingly well? Dana said. Although lucky for John they were in a diner, it didn?t leave a lot of room for error. All and all he did a good job. Everyone was pleased with their lunch. ?I want to go back out to the crime scene? Monica stated between bites. ?I don?t think that is a good idea? Dana did not want her going back to the place where she?d been attacked. Even if she and John were with there, this assailant appeared out of nowhere as Monica had so emphatically stated. Monica turned to face her, she knew Dana was only trying to protect her, but she had been in far worse situations. ?And why not? Monica asked. John spoke before Dana could answer. ?Yeah, I was just going to suggest the same thing, I want to take another look around, make sure there wasn?t anything we overlooked.? Dana nodded in silent agreement; she knew she didn?t have a worth while argument. She would just have to do her best to keep an eye on Monica. They finished lunch, paid the bill and headed out to the crime scene. They arrived at the cabin when Doggett?s phone rang. ?John Doggett? Monica and Dana entered the cabin. Dana went downstairs before Monica. Something didn?t add up as Monica looked around. She was sensing something, she couldn?t quite pinpoint what it was but something was definitely off. Monica caught up with Dana down stairs. ?There?s another dead body same M.O.? John stated. Dana?s heart sank. She knew she would have to go perform the autopsy and that would leave Monica out of her protection. ?Agent Scully, we?ll drop ya over at the morgue, and we will go to the crime scene.? John said. ?OK? was all Dana could manage to say, she wasn?t happy about these turn of events. The fact remained that there was a murderer on the loose and she would do everything in her power to assist in his capture. After all she understood that, that was the reason that AD Skinner had assigned her to the case in the first place. As Dana exited the car to enter the morgue, Monica gave her that compassionate, reassuring, don?t worry I will be fine look. Dana forced a smile and tried to believe her, as they drove off. She was still trying to shake off the remnants of her nightmare. She had lost Monica and it was as if Dana?s body quickly liquified from the inside out, rendering the shell of her body to dust. Although she was not one believe that dreams slash nightmares were more than composites of memory, ideas, and the subconscious. This nightmare was different; it was as if it shook her very soul. It was excruciating not seeing Monica for those six months, but the thought of never being able to see her again was unbearable. She drew her thoughts back to the autopsy she was in the middle of. Every detail was the same; there was absolutely no difference in either body. Both murders executed in the exact same manner with the exact same weapon. She had seen her share of the horrendous, what man was capable of doing, with all of her medical training and years of experience she could remove herself from the examination without a second thought. This autopsy was proving a difficult task, her nightmare and all of its emotions were unrelenting. How she desperately needed to hear Monica?s voice, just a quick call to let her know she was safe. Dana realized how foolish that was; Monica was going over the crime scene. She would hear from her later. Just then Monica entered the room. My gosh how does that woman do that? She is amazing, if there was ever a person who could truly claim to have an intuitive gift it would have to be Monica. Dana felt a small smile and a smaller sigh make themselves known in her body. She was relieved. A big goofy grin spread across Monica?s face. There was the Agent Smiley Dana knew and loved. John made his way into the room. ?Tell me you got good news, Agent Scully.? John stated. ?They are exactly the same, so much so that I decided to pull their medical files. There is a very rare distinction that both men share; it seems that because of behavioral concerns they underwent neuroimaging in the care of Dr. Bombay. The images of their brain show the surface to be smooth. It was said that Einstein?s brain was smooth. I don?t have to tell you how extremely rare that is, and that two men would have this condition the same town is highly improbable.? Scully explained. ?So what you are saying is that Richard Lucas chose these two men because they suffered from a rare condition that somehow provided him with the means to prolong his transcending of time and space.? Reyes interpreted. ?Ok, so if what you two are saying is true, how does that help us catch him?? Doggett asked. Even though he didn?t believe for one minute their theory, he still wanted to be able to lock the murderer up. ?We could start by questioning Dr. Bombay? Scully deducted. She finished up with the autopsy as Agents Doggett and Reyes left to question Dr. Bombay. ?I am sorry that I could not be of more help to you, but aside from the coincidence of the two men sharing an extremely rare condition, we have noticed nothing out of the ordinary.? Dr. Bombay offered. ?Should you recall anything at all, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please give us a call.? Reyes said handing him her card. Agent Doggett and Agent Reyes left to pick up Agent Scully up from the morgue, then returned to the motel. Doggett was exhausted and went straight to his room, as did Scully and Reyes. Dana showered washing away the leftover smells from the autopsy. She dressed in her pajamas and went through the adjoining door to Monica?s room. Monica?s room was empty and panic struck Dana. She ran to John?s room but he hadn?t seen her since they came back. The car was still parked in the parking lot and no sign of her. Dana almost voiced her thought, this is not happening, but choked as she remembered the last time she uttered those words. Tears filled her eyes and she would be damned before she stumbled over Monica?s dead body as she did Mulder?s back in that God forsaken field in Montana. It was as if she had literally vanished into thin air. Dana?s heart froze; she could not lose Monica, not now, not ever. John was beside himself struggling to comprehend what the hell could have happened. If Dana only possessed Monica?s gift she would have been able to sense her presence. Richard had grabbed Monica; they were in the room, but on another plane, invisible to both Dana and John. Richard Lucas stood behind Monica, holding her around the waist with a knife to her throat. She couldn?t scream, although she wanted to. The pain she could see in Dana?s eyes was breaking her heart. If she ever questioned or feared how she truly felt about her, it was painfully obvious now, she knew Dana loved her with everything she had, and she was petrified that she had lost her. ?What are we gonna do, how do we save her Agent Scully?? John asked with tears in his eyes. ?I do not know yet, but give me a moment to think.? Dana started mentally going through old case files, trying to remember any kind of link that might help her save Monica. She started thinking about how Mulder would have reacted in this situation, and decided it would be best for her to try to remain as open as possible. The only thing she began to focus on was Monica. Suddenly, she sensed her; she could smell her shampoo, white tea and ginger, and Dana would recognize that scent anywhere. She quickly drew her gun and fired toward the bathroom. Monica fell out of thin air onto the floor. Richard Lucas? dead body fell with hers. Dana had taken a chance that he would be standing behind Monica, and she aimed slightly to the right of where there was only a very faint smell of Monica?s shampoo. She had tuned into Monica with precision, and it saved her life. Agent Doggett was at a lost as to what just happened and was too stunned to ask any questions at the moment. Once Monica regained her composure she began to explain how Richard Lucas wanted what most men want: immortality, power and control, that being his driving force. That was what led him to Eric and to the second man. ?Well I am not sure about that, but we do have a dead body, with the weapon in his hand, case closed.? Agent Doggett offered, ?It still doesn?t explain why he didn?t age.? He was still struggling with what to actually believe. On the flight back Dana exhaled and took a moment to secretly thank the heavens that she had not lost Monica. That she had been given the chance to build a beautiful life together with the woman of her dreams, the mate her soul had long since giving up searching for. The woman, who challenged her, encouraged, strengthened, and supported her through so many difficult times in her life before. Yes, she was thankful that instead of loss, she had been given life. Monica seeming to sense her thoughts turned to her and smiled the warmest smile, melting Dana?s heart. Oh yes, Dana was thankful indeed. The End
