Boot Camp
Though we do not know where Knowle was born or grew up, it
is safe to assume that perhaps he was born/grew up on the
east coast. If this were the fact, he would have gone to boot
camp at Parris Island, South Carolina. (website)
Time Served
The exact time Knowle Rohrer spent with the United States
Marine Corps is unknown. What we do know is that Knowle served
with John Doggett and the 24th MAU (Marine Amphibious Unit)
over in Beirut, Lebanon. This would mean that he was also
involved in the 1983 terrorist bombing at the Marine barracks
in Beirut, Lebanon with John Doggett and Shannon McMahon.
Beirut 1983
The bombing of the Marine Barracks, which were at the Beirut
International Airport, happened on October 23, 1983 at 06:22.
A truck loaded with explosives crashed through the security
perimiter killing 241 U.S. Military personnel, and seriously
wounding 80. The majority died while sleeping, or were crushed
when the building collapsed. The wounded Marines were flown
to West Germany for medical care, and were visted two days
later on October 25th by the Commandant of Marine Corps. The
24th MAU was relieved by the 22nd MAU on November 19, 1983.
